Synchronized Skating

What is Synchro?
Synchro, previously called precision, is a discipline of figure skating where a team of 8-16 skaters learn elements such as blocks, lines, wheels, circles, and intersections. These elements are performed both connected and unconnected (no-hold) with intricate footwork and are trained to a themed program.
Synchronized skating not only trains correct skating skills and technique, but also works on dance, performance and interpretation skills, posture, confidence, and teamwork. Teamwork is not only important in synchro, but is such a useful life skill too!
Skaters can compete on synchronized skating teams (Star 3, Star 4, Star 6, Star 8, Gold, etc) and can also achieve synchro assessments (Star 3, Star 4.)
Star 4 Synchro - Silver Mist!
Skaters interested in joining a synchronized skating team should reach out to Coach Shaelyn Cooper (shaelynssc@gmail.com) for information and options!
We currently have an inter-club Star 4 Synchronized skating team made up of High River, Okotoks, Stavely, and Strathmore skaters. These skaters meet once a week on Sundays (in Okotoks) to practice! Registration is through the Okotoks Skating Club website. This season (2025-2026) was their first year together and they competed in March at the ice Fest event in Carstairs, earning 5th place out of 7 teams!
HRSC Synchro History - High River Dreamers!
Our club has an amazing history of Synchronized skating. In 2016, Coach Shaelyn Case (now Shaelyn Cooper) started the first Elementary Synchro team based out of the High River Skating Club. This team grew over the course of 7 years and attended various events in Calgary and Carstairs. They won a Silver medal in their first competition ever in 2018 (Rosebowl event - Calgary), a Silver medal in 2019 (Ice Fest event - Carstairs), and a Gold medal for their "Willy Wonka" themed program in 2019. When that original team advanced to the Pre-Novice level, we created a new Elementary team for the next younger generation, and this team continued for 3 years as well.
Several skaters from these teams also advanced to join competitive synchronized teams in Calgary. One skater (Elyssa D) joined the Junior competitive team (Solstice Synchro), while another (Kiera D) joined the Intermediate & Open competitive teams. Both skaters have competed in Nationals in the Synchro discipline!
